Shobana Jeyasingh's [h]Interland | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Welcome to the [h]Interland website. This site draws together strands of investigation centred on the making of [h]Interland, a multi-media, site-specific work created by Shobana Jeyasingh in collaboration with Terry Braun, Pete Gomes, Donnacha Dennehy, Joanna Parker, and dancers Sowmya Gopalan, Mavin Khoo and Chitra Srishailan. The performance work, which was premiered on 24th to 26th October 2002, at Borough Hall, Greenwich Dance Agency, London, was rich and complex and we hope that this site reflects those qualities. The material presented here has been gathered through first person commentary from Shobana, observations of the creative process by Hanna Bruce and Niki Pollard, a dancer's diary by Sowmya Gopalan, and a further layer of commentary and distillation by Sanjoy Roy, as he indicates in his overview. Shobana Jeyasingh worked with web designer Roberto Battista in the design and construction of the site, and also with ResCen researcher Jane Watt. The materials on the site represent the work of Shobana and the collaborative team and we are grateful to everyone who generously allowed their material to be included here. The site offers new perspectives and insights into Shobana's creative process, and it also raises the problematic nature of observing such processes. ResCen aims to contribute to, and further the debate surrounding practice and research and we hope you find this site achieves that goal. |
