Graeme Miller – Country Dance | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Place Theatre, London commissioned Graeme Miller to make a stage
work for their Spring Loaded season in 1999. The result was Country
Dance. In response to a context of contemporary dance, this work was conceived as a stage work about Dance, rather than as a dance work in itself. The piece was made for and with an ensemble of eight performers, to be staged in the round in a transformed theatre. Country Dance deals with themes emerging from residing in inner city London and uses the language of English Folk Dance to explore the possibilities of culture and identity, while celebrating the transforming capacity of social dance. The themes of the work were also touched on in a paper of the same title given at the Now Festival, Nottingham, UK in 1998. ‘Country Dance’ is now published in Architecturally Speaking. Ed.
