14th November 2001, IMA/K-bit, Kyoto - ICA, London
An event involving a two-way live connection/ telematic link between ICA, London and Kyoto, Japan that took place every hour, for four hours during the evening.
London dancers Claire Keating and Leanne Bird exchanged physical movement with dancers from the K.Bit institute in Kyoto. Prior communication between the dancers involved receiving a set of instructions via fax. These instructions were then worked into a performance piece that built up over the evening, between the dancers and involving members of the audience on both sides.
The workshop format facilitated audience learning and education in an informal and fun way and suggested a methodology for audience development that shinkansen intends to develop onwards alongside its telematic demonstrations and experiments.
