| Errollyn's introduction to Emily Beyon and the Brodsky Quartet | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Emily Beynon is one of the most deeply musical people I’ve ever met. This is the first time I’ve worked with her but before I met her I listened to some of her recordings and broadcasts. Writing for the flute is a challenge because, although it is great at mellifluous and melodic passages, the sound can become slightly wearing on the ear; almost too "sweet." The way Emily plays, one is hardly aware of the instrument; only of singing, breathing and a wonderful intelligence. When we worked alone together at Trinity College of Music before the rehearsal with everyone, she offered so many useful suggestions, which only helped to make the music "speak" better. She really got inside my music and brought a tremendous expertise to her preparation. The joy of composing is that occasionally you get to work with the best…
The Brodsky Quartet is one of the UK’s most famous quartets reaching a wide audience when, in the early 90's, they collaborated with Elvis Costello on the album The Juliet Letters. The Brodskys are a fabulous quartet distinguished by their bravura musicianship and passionate commitment to whatever they’re playing.
